Summer Reading Club

We know that it is important for children to keep reading during the months of summer vacation so they maintain their reading skills. The Library presents a reading program that will be fun and also provide motivation to keep reading all summer long. We offer prizes based on participation – not how much is read. There are also craft classes for children who love to do things with their hands.

We offer our summer reading club in conjunction with the TD Bank program that offers free resources for all public libraries. Local businesses donate prizes and financial support and it is in large part due to their support that we can continue to offer an excellent summer program.

Summer Reading Club is open to all children who have completed Kindergarten up to the completion of Grade 8.

Cost is FREE – Library Membership is required.

Non Resident Families may purchase a 2-month conditional family membership.

Conditions:

  • At least one child must be enrolled and participating in the SRC
  • Cost for 2 months is $10
  • Membership is valid from date of registration to the end August

If families choose to extend their membership into a full year, the $10 payment will be part of the full payment and the card is extended to the end of June the following year.

Reading Circle

Reading Circle is a children’s book club that meets once per week to read and discuss the chosen book for the summer. There is also a craft or activity and game on the theme of the book. This summer’s chosen book is How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. There is no cost or registration for this program.

Reading Circle runs every Thursday afternoon from 1:30-2:45 PM, from Thursday, July 5 to Thursday, August 16.

There will be a Reading Circle Wind up Party on Thursday, August 23 from 1:30-3:30 PM. We will be watching the movie adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon and enjoying popcorn.
