Child and Teen Program Coordinator
The employee in this position will plan, coordinate and deliver library programs for children ages pre-school to high school.
Hours: 25 hours per week (flexibility required)
Schedule: Occasional evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and Saturdays required. No Sundays. Work during summer (July & August), Spring Break and many In-service school days required. Possibility of full-time employment during the summer, and reduced hours during fall and winter to average out to 25 hours per week.
Preferred start date: April 4, 2022
Typical Duties:
- Plan and deliver the library’s preschool program: (Toddler & Me for ages 18 months-2 years https://jakeepplibrary.com/for-you/kids/programs/toddler-and-me/, and Story Hour for ages 3-5 https://jakeepplibrary.com/for-you/kids/story-hour/)
- Develop, plan and deliver the library’s Summer Reading Club for children in grades 1-6
- Oversee and supervise summer interns and children’s programming assistants
- Plan and deliver programs for school-aged children to run during Spring Break and some inservice days
- Communicate with area teachers to promote the library and plan/run field trips and tours
- Advertise and promote programs on local media outlets (radio, newspaper, online, etc.)
- Coordinate other children and teen programs as time allows (book clubs, author readings, game nights, crafting events, etc.)
- Attend monthly planning meetings to make programs schedule and liaise with management and those in charge of social media and displays
- Attend staff meetings and communicate programs information to all library employees
- Evaluate programs through debriefs, surveys and reports
- Ensure health, safety and cleanliness of the children’s programming environment and resources
- Other duties as assigned

- Energetic, friendly, and engaging
- Enthusiasm for children’s literacy and reading
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), as media interviews and connection with parents, teachers, and patrons are essential for this position
- Creativity (crafts, promo materials, engaging and fun activities, etc.)
- Time Management skills, especially in areas of planning
- Leadership abilities and confidence
- Basic technological and computer skills (email, social media, Excel, internet research, projector use, etc.)
- Familiarity with children’s and juvenile books and themes
- Superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Good judgment and tact in working with parents, children and staff
- Ability to work independently and show initiative
- Passion for inclusion and accessibility, especially as it pertains to youth programming
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required
- At least two years of experience working with children and teens preferred
- Basic Computer skills required
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Ability to pass a criminal background check (update required every 3 years)
