Nov 20, 2020 Update
With the provincial recommendation that we stay home as much as is possible, Jake Epp Library will be temporarily suspending curbside and in house services. Upcoming due dates and upcoming expiring memberships will be renewed until Dec 28, 2020. The book drop will remain closed for a time, please keep your books at home for now. Stay home, stay safe.
Nov 6, 2020 Update
With the provincial announcement that our health region is moving to Critical (Red) level, until further notice the library will be moving to curbside services only.
The book drop will remain open, due dates will remain applicable, and fines can still be garnered for late materials.
To access our curbside service:
- Reserve your desired items. You can reserve up to 10 books online, or, if you do not have online access, over the phone. (for more information see our reserving procedures: https://jakeepplibrary.com/using-the-library/how-to/place-a-hold/). If you would like to pick them all up at the time of your appointment, be sure you are reserving items that are currently showing as “in”.
- Wait for your reserve email notification (or phone call if you do not have an email).
- Once you have received the notification, phone the library at 204-326-6841 to book a time for an appointment (you can choose a fifteen-minute time slot within the next week). Available times will be: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri: 10-5:15, Tues: 10-7:45
- Bring your library card (the exact one used to reserve the items) to the appointment, and please wear a mask at pick-up time.
- If there is a line up wait at the designated markings to give six feet of space.
- Once it is your turn, ring the doorbell, approach the door, and show us your library card.
- We will find the books matching your card and set them on a chair outside the door for you, all checked out and ready to go.
- Pick them up (giving us six feet of space) and enjoy!
Please phone or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Oct 31, 2020 Update
With the provincial announcement that all health regions outside of Winnipeg will be in the Restricted (Orange) level, there are a few changes you’ll notice at the library.
The corresponding restrictions associated with these levels will come into effect on November 2.
Masks are required for entry into the building and access to services in house for anyone over the age of five. Contactless pickup will be available for non-mask wearing patrons.
The library is required to gather contact tracing information from everyone who enters the building. What this means is, when someone enters the library they will be required to provide library staff their name and phone number so that, in the event contact tracers need to track individuals who were at the library, this information will be readily accessible to them. If you come to the library multiple times a day, you will be required to provide your information each time. The information acquired for contact tracing will not be disclosed to anyone except for authorized library staff and provincial medical staff, and the information will be destroyed 21 days after the day it was acquired.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email the librarian at email@example.com and they will respond as soon as is possible.
In addition, we have updated our open hours once more. Our new winter hours for the foreseeable future will be:

Jake Epp Library to Reopen: Phase One
[Steinbach, MB, May 4 2020] As libraries are included in Phase One of Manitoba’s Pandemic and Economic Roadmap for recovery, the Jake Epp Library is preparing to once again offer
library services to the community. However, in order to follow provincial health guidelines and ensure the safety of staff and patrons, we will need some preparation time before allowing public into the building.
Phase one of Jake Epp Library reopening plan has been formulated. This first phase will see the book drop opening on May 7th (due dates for all materials will remain as June 30th). On May 14th, the library will begin offering contactless book pick-up on an appointment basis. We are still working out the details as to how appointments and book reserves will be made, and will announce those instructions once they are determined.
We do not want to jeopardize the confidence the community has for our library by opening too soon and being unprepared. The safety of our staff and patrons is paramount. We want to offer library services so that everyone can keep reading, and are working hard to figure out ways of doing that.
Thank you so much for your patience. We are in this together!
March 16, 2020 Announcement
In response to the increased health concerns surrounding COVID-19, the Jake Epp Library has made the very difficult decision to temporarily close its doors beginning March 17th. At this time, the duration of the closure is unknown. Provincial health authority guidelines will be followed. It is very challenging, if not impossible, to keep a public library fully sanitized under pandemic conditions, and it is also extremely difficult to ensure social distancing in a public space. During the weeks in which the library is closed, the entire building will be deeply cleaned and sanitized.
Library Services During the Closure:
The Jake Epp Library website has information on how to access electronic books through eLibraries Manitoba. Go to: https://elm.overdrive.com/.
Be sure to also check out our list of free online resources. Go to: https://jakeepplibrary.com/explore/free-online-resources-for-booksmedia\
The library will not be accepting any returned materials during the closure. All due dates will be adjusted as needed. Currently items are due back on June 30th.
