COVID-19 Response

March 15, 2022

Masks are now strongly recommended.

January 26, 2022

The library will be reopening on Tuesday, February 1st. Curbside pickup will still be available, so please call the library if you want to utilize that service. Also note that for the next few weeks the library will be closed on Wednesdays in order to address pandemic staffing issues.

January 7, 2022

To address pandemic staffing shortages and safety concerns, we will be moving to curb side pick up appointments starting Monday, January 10th. That means our doors will be closed and you will need to reserve up to 10 books online (starting January 10) or up to 6 books over the phone. Once you have been notified (via email) that your books are ready you may call to schedule an appointment. Should you need more than the allotted 10 reserves, please request an in-person browsing appointment. You will be scheduled a 30 minute time frame in which you may browse for your books in the building and check out as many as you can keep track of. One person per household per 30 minute time slot, masks covering the mouth and nose with no gaps must be worn at all times inside the building.

Oct 31, 2020 Update

With the provincial announcement that all health regions outside of Winnipeg will be in the Restricted (Orange) level, there are a few changes you’ll notice at the library.

The corresponding restrictions associated with these levels will come into effect on November 2.

Masks are required for entry into the building and access to services in house for anyone over the age of five. Contactless pickup will be available for non-mask wearing patrons.

The library is required to gather contact tracing information from everyone who enters the building. What this means is, when someone enters the library they will be required to provide library staff their name and phone number so that, in the event contact tracers need to track individuals who were at the library, this information will be readily accessible to them. If you come to the library multiple times a day, you will be required to provide your information each time. The information acquired for contact tracing will not be disclosed to anyone except for authorized library staff and provincial medical staff, and the information will be destroyed 21 days after the day it was acquired.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email the librarian at librarian@jakeepplibrary.com and they will respond as soon as is possible.

In addition, we have updated our open hours once more. Our new winter hours for the foreseeable future will be:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 12:30-5

Tuesday: 12:30-8

Saturday: 10-2

Aug 20, 2020 Update

ILL Services have resumed! Please be advised there are a few more restrictions at the moment, such as 3 requests per card. There is likely also a longer wait time as we work through our backlog of requests, and add additional time for quarantining and longer shipping times.

May 4, 2020 Update

Jake Epp Library to Reopen: Phase One

[Steinbach, MB, May 4 2020] As libraries are included in Phase One of Manitoba’s Pandemic and Economic Roadmap for recovery, the Jake Epp Library is preparing to once again offer

library services to the community.  However, in order to follow provincial health guidelines and ensure the safety of staff and patrons, we will need some preparation time before allowing public into the building.

Phase one of Jake Epp Library reopening plan has been formulated. This first phase will see the book drop opening on May 7th (due dates for all materials will remain as June 30th). On May 14th, the library will begin offering contactless book pick-up on an appointment basis.  We are still working out the details as to how appointments and book reserves will be made, and will announce those instructions once they are determined.

We do not want to jeopardize the confidence the community has for our library by opening too soon and being unprepared.  The safety of our staff and patrons is paramount.  We want to offer library services so that everyone can keep reading, and are working hard to figure out ways of doing that.

Thank you so much for your patience.  We are in this together!

March 16, 2020 Announcement

Dear Patrons,

In response to the increased health concerns surrounding COVID-19, the Jake Epp Library has made the very difficult decision to temporarily close its doors beginning March 17th. At this time, the duration of the closure is unknown. Provincial health authority guidelines will be followed. It is very challenging, if not impossible, to keep a public library fully sanitized under pandemic conditions, and it is also extremely difficult to ensure social distancing in a public space. During the weeks in which the library is closed, the entire building will be deeply cleaned and sanitized.

Library Services During the Closure:

The Jake Epp Library website has information on how to access electronic books through eLibraries Manitoba. Go to: https://elm.overdrive.com/.

Be sure to also check out our list of free online resources. Go to: https://jakeepplibrary.com/explore/free-online-resources-for-booksmedia\

Due Dates:

The library will not be accepting any returned materials during the closure. All due dates will be adjusted as needed. Currently items are due back on June 30th.

Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding during this time and know that the health and safety of our community is our top priority.
